Picturing Artists

We are including artist's photos in their Tor.com gallery bios. I spent a little time this weekend going through them....leading to thoughts of, "Wow, they are so much younger, older, balder, hairier, cuter, stranger, and more animal loving than I would have guessed." But, sadly, it points out how many more men there are in the business than women.

TOP ROW:

Shelly Wan, Tiffany Prothero, Brom, Kinuko Craft, Robh Ruppel, Daarken, Jeremy Geddes.

BOTTOM ROW:

Aleksi Briclot, Raymond Swanland, Garry Lippincott., Thomas Kuebler, Jamie Jones, Steve Hickman, Keith Thompson

There might be more men than women, but what the women lack in numbers, they make up for in sheer talent.

Just wanted to let you know that "Darrken" should be "Daarken" :)

Fixed!Sorry about that. You can take some solace in that i am as likely to misspell my own name as anyone else's.

Frankly, when I re-read older posts I suddenly see a zillion typos that my head just doesn't register at the time. It's a wonder anyone can wade through it.

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a spell checker. I wish there was.

Kinuko is truly one of the most beautiful women in the world...I so want to paint her portrait some day.

Fun! Kinuko Craft is so beautiful, as is her work.

Hello Irene:)

I like reading your blog, it's nice to know who's who and what's going on in the world of fantasy illustration today.
I agree with the first comment, but it really makes me wonder: why is it that there's less women than men in this job? Knowing how you feel about it (likewise), I'm just curious to hear what your opinion on this might be...

Here's my take (I'll TRY to keep it short): More guys grow up into comics & gaming- & all that art inspires them. There are f-a-r more females "into it" than years ago. I recall a % way less than 100 to 1 at GenCon in the 80s (& boys flocking to oggle Elmore's models). Maybe moms & dads need to give their daughters comic books? ;-) Or those of us "into it" need to start MAKING good, art-based product that appeals to girls (please note I said "good"). World domination begins with indoctrinating the young... Bwah hah hah!

Well it's certainly not for a lack of talented women artists in the world... perhaps it's time for a women in sff art expo to back up the women writers in sff?

Do you like playing the game where you need to use wow gold, when you do not have World of Warcraft Gold, you must borrow warcraft gold from friends, or you buy wow gold. If you get cheap wow gold, you can continue this game.
